… I’ll be waiting for you..

Behind these gorgeous, environment friendly, and so chic entry doors. Stunning entry doors like these by Neoporte are guaranteed to leave lasting impressions. The are fully customizable with options for levers, billets, but what I love the most is are the embedded organic elements within the glass. How super duper cool! Neoporte delivers excellent craftsmanship and easy installation. They build each system to order, can accommodate individual door dimensions up to 4′6″ wide by 10′ high for a total double opening of 9′ wide by 10′ high. Add sidelites and transoms for total system dimensions limited only by your imagination.

Their design philosophy is so close to my heart -

Our design philosophy is that trees look better green and in the forest.
All Neoporte doors are made from 100% stainless steel, a durable, recyclable
material that lasts a lifetime without the need for toxic refinishing.

And the best part is not that they are endorsed by the US Green Building Council, but these gorgeous show stoppers…

Knock knock…

Care to take a seat with me?

Sebastian Gronmeyer, born is Germany and educated in North America, used Arne Jacobson’s Egg Chair to hide in as a kid. Motivated by his first attempt at design which was an electric guitar, he decided to pursue a career in design. Here is the outcome – The Orchid and W chairs. I call him a genius.

Need I say more? Could someone get me some tea? If you need me I will also be hiding in one of these.

In addition to all the full bodied wines, you can bring some vines home too!

Searching for restored wooden furniture, similar to Kings Road Home, I came across Napa Style.

Founded by Napa Valley chef, vintner, tv host and author, Michael Chiarello, NapaStyle showcases an eclectic mix of handcrafted and exclusive home goods and artisanal specialty foods that celebrate all things cooking, entertaining, wine, garden and home. Michael expresses his passion for seasonal and sustainable living through his television shows and cookbooks, and his uniquely designed NapaStyle products, such as his artisan-made salami, salts & spreads, reclaimed barnwood furniture, vintage flatware & antiques, and specialty barware & tabletop. All can be found in the NapaStyle retail stores, online, and in its catalog.

Wooden base and glass top, these tables bring such a natural feel to interiors. I’m imagining white hardwood floors under these.

Coffetable

These tables were made from old retired vines, and are handmade. Aren’t they so earthy? These 80- to 100-year-old trunks come from California Cabernet and Chardonnay vines that have stopped producing grapes. A resourceful artisan rescues, cleans and forms each vine base with handmade care. They are kiln-dried, sandblasted and lacquer-sealed to preserve their majestic character.

Winestorage

Isnt this trolley table perfect for a night of scrabble and wine?

Chopstick trouble?

If you have a good chance of dropping your California roll midway to your mouth, then TUKAANI is perfect for you.

Tukaani

The sterling silver TUKAANI is a hand made eating device for Asian food. It may be held as traditional chopsticks. But unlike the disposable wooden chopsticks, TUKAANI is both machine and hand washable and much easier to set on – and use at table. The matt surface and taut movement allow steady grip in the hand. The curl at the end of the TUKAANI provides eased food picking and delivery to the mouth. The loop also allows easier hanging, storage and display.

I think it looks very stylish and appears to be so easy to use.  So practical. Tukaani can be ordered through Mochatini or directly on Kawiya.fi.

TUKAANI is Finnish for the toucan bird species. The Toucan’s bill provided inspiration for this cutlery project.

Tukaani is Lincoln Kayiwa’s stylish replacement to the traditional wooden chopsticks. No more embarrassing moments or wood splinters. Lincoln is also working on some other interesting projects like the Rosè. The ROSÈ glasses are the solution to the wobbly glasses at picnics. No more drink spills!

And another interesting design by Lincoln, the Ittoli. Sculpture, amorphous, malleable… However you may interpret it, the ITTOLI is a comfortable single metallic rod three seater thanks to the alignment of the loops and contours, which also allow the varying sitting postures.

To see his other work, visit his website. I can’t wait to see more designs by Lincoln. He has promised to keep us updated on Mochatini.

As a designer, I encourage clients to bright, safe, functional and sustainable kitchens.

When planning a kitchen, creating a functionality list is not only helpful but essential. How many members of the house use it, if at all? And for what purpose(s)? And yes sometimes I take into account answers that disclose using the oven as shoe storage :) .

Is it just for dinners and weekend meals? Or is it the center of activity? Multi functional? Pets? Kids etc..

As a couple, we love to cook together, entertain, and experiment with our culinary skills. I am a sucker for gadgets, tools and appliances, that add to this experience. These factors and more influence the design of my kitchen.

Some of the points on my list for a kitchen are: it needs to be an organized, equipped, functional, bright and modern space. A space that inspires creativity, entertaining, recycling (compost and glass bottles) and health.

I need lots of storage space. For all daily and occasional china, beverage crystal and daily glasswares, pots and pans, appliances, and a decent sized work counter. I love to add life by keeping some of my herbs in the kitchen. Having fresh herbs handy encourages me to use them more in my cooking.

I would also love to walk out to a garden or comfy lounge seats from my kitchen. See image# 9 & 11.

So enough about my kitchen.

What’s in your kitchen? The one you have, the one you would like to have? What is important to you in kitchens? I would love to hear about your kitchen concerns.

Meanwhile, take a look at some of these for inspiration. Some of these are potential options for our new space. The search for which is still ongoing..

I am starting with Ikea. They recently released their 2009 catalog and it looks very promising. I visited their store in Woodbridge, VA to look at offerings in kitchens.  Their collections let you play with so many options as well as mix and match to suit your style and budget.

Have any of you used Ikea’s kitchen installation services? What would you say about their expertise and timelines?
