So there are two house tours I had been meaning to share with you. But because I love pretty much every room in both these homes, I decided they deserve their own separate posts. First up is hairstylist Sally Hershberger‘s Manhattan penthouse featured in the latest issue of Elle Decor. Her penthouse at me at cellula.

I am seriously in love with the pieces in each room. The budda statue on her countertop – fabulous! From the art on the walls (joseph lapiana) to the chic modern lighting (panton, cellula, ettore sottsass) to classy vintage furniture (arne jacobson egg chair), everything comes together brilliantly.

What are your fav bits from her penthouse?

hello back-to-school-monday

by manvi on August 30, 2010 · 3 comments

Hello first-day-back-to-school Monday.

I hope you had a great weekend, were able to relax and enjoy sunshine wherever you are. We had a gorgeous sunny weekend here in DC so we decided on a spontaneous crab lunch trip to Annapolis. Maryland boasts some of the most delicious crabs. Thanks Ally and Jane for tips on how to get rid of crab smelling hands. Lemons did the trick.

Other highlights from our weekend included:

- A tweet up organized by beautiful Maryam from Marrakesh. It was awesome to finally meet Maryam. She is even lovelier in person. The tweet up, was at charming Vinoteca (highly recommend the tamari “reserve”from mendoza, argentina) and was a cheerful gathering of wonderful peeps. A shout out to Christie, Andrea, Brandie, Nole, Kaydee and Bill. It was a pleasure to connect with you all.

- And shopping for goodies from the Takoma Park farmers market. I really look forward to farmer’s market on weekends to score fresh treats. This weekend I put together a small spread of kalamata olive bread, strawberry-peach jam and chevre goat cheese, and bellinis. Perfect outdoor picnic.

- I also found these cute lavender sachets at the market for my lingerie drawer. These little sachets are easy to make using left-over fabric and filled with lavender (or other potpourri) would make great hostess gifts.

Oh and I realized I hadnt shared my new lamp (Cyan via GiltGroupe) with you. Isnt she pretty? Initially, I wanted her in our masterbed room, but I think she feels more at home in the dining room, dont you?

Have a happy week ahead.

ps: giveaway winner – coming up next.

iamges: all manvi drona-hidalgo, except #4 which is via apartment 34.

hello monday

by manvi on August 23, 2010 · 2 comments

And hello you. Hope your weekend was as nice and relaxing as ours.

Since restaurant week is on in DC, we decided to check out one of the participating restaurants, bistrot lepic. Though we enjoyed our meal, it was nothing special. We also went to watch the second movie in the Stieg Larsson series – the girl who played with fire. I know, I know, I should read the books first, but i just havent had the time. Im still on the first book – the girl with the dragon tattoo. Have you read the books or watched the movies?

This lovely pic is by Leslie from a creative mint. have a great week ahead. xo

My dear friends…Two good things:

One, its finally Friday!! and two,  I have a new giveaway for you.

A set of pjs (of your choice) from the new collection at PajamaSutra. Inspired by the intricate patterns and colors of Indian textiles, the collection showcases bold, vivid prints in lightweight cotton voile.

This debut collection from designer Sarena Udani offers a wide variety of prints ranging from a delicate henna design to a bold, sixties-inspired geometric pattern. Each print is paired with a contrasting trim fabric in unexpected colors, and features PajamaSutra’s signature “comfort flat piping” – all the look of elegant piping without the thick cord sewn in.

Pajama party anyone?

To enter, leave a comment on this post with your choice. Giveaway open to US and Canada residents only. I will accept entries until end of day August 27th.

rethink wallpaper

by manvi on August 17, 2010 · 8 comments

If you think wallpapers only belong in your grandma’s home, think again. These fun, fresh and trendy wallpapers by mimou would look great in your house or city apartment. Think fabulous accent walls.  Create a focal point in any room by dressing up a wall with these modern and vibrant prints. Some of them dont even look like wallpapers. Also, wallpapering is easy way to add visual interest, texture and pops of color to tired entryways and hallways.

this poinsettia print would be perfect in a walk-in closet, no?

too bad these are mostly sold in sweden and norway…

View their entire catalog here.
