A friend was on the look out for alice in wonderland theme ideas for her baby shower. While these ideas are for a kids birthday party, some of the details can be easily modified to create an adult version of whimsical wonderlands… ;-)

What ideas to keep and which to switch?

For starters, keep the fine china tea cups.. no grown up “alice in wonderland” inspired celebration is complete without a good china set. Aren’t these pretty?

Keep: the paper lanterns..simply because I love how them.

Add hearts on the tablecloth. You could also design menu cards to look like queen of hearts playing card. It would be fun to place a

Switch: paper flowers for real ones, exotic asiatic lilies and orchids.

Switch: plastic chairs for mismatched wooden or iron ones.

Keep the butterflies and other whimsical objects…

Wow, this got me in the mood for an alice in wonderland themed party for myself..

While I dont usually feature much from the major retailers, I had to share this beachy seaside inspired tabletop from the pottery barn spring/summer catalog.

the details i like in this setting? the individual succulents, the net table cloth, and the cute seahorse napkin rings.

hand written menu cards are always a fav of mine. I also like the non-traditional setting of silverware.

And in this setting, I thought octopus napkin rings and sea urchin salt-pepper shakers are too adorable.

What about you? see anything inspiring?

ps: i’m also digging their new bedding collection, coming up in my next post.

Gorgeous weather for the last few days gave us a chance to spend time in our yard again. I cant tell you how much I have missed lounging in our yard. My little tulips are springing, and so are the Iris plants, among others. While at home depot yesterday, I bought some more herbs and flowers and planted them in lil jiffy pots. I will wait another month before planting them outside. So excited to have my garden back!!

Being outside and soaking in sunshine had me planning backyard soirees. Here are some lovely tablescapes to steal ideas from.

Over at decorology, I found out issue two of nesting newbies is out. This issue is even better than the first. Packed with great cooking, entertaining and decorating ideas, it also features some gorgeous tabletop decor. Since I love color, I was instantly in love with this moroccan inspired tablescape. This decor, a fav at DIFFA’s dining by design in San Francisco, was designed by Patrice Cowan Bevans interiors.

My dolls, as you know I am a huge fan of handmade holiday tabletops. Not only are handmade tables unique, they are also more heartfelt because of the effort that goes into creating the look. In that spirit, I created one for you; a valentine’s day tabletop with a simple red and white palette.

My local fabric store had sale on valentine’s day prints and I bought a yard of a cute white cotton one with red hearts. I paired it with two other fabrics; a solid red which I used as a runner, and the other a red pinstripe as the tablecloth. The dinner plates, pearl napkin rings, votives and wine glasses are from pier 1 also all on sale. The silverware is from william sonoma. I designed and printed the bird notecards that can double as menus with lil love notes on the back. The entire look was created in under 90$ including the tulips. Hope you like. xo

Originally from a wedding, this tabletop would make a pretty table for two on Valentine’s day. Peachy pastels in combination with whites and creams makes the decor soft and romantic. Floating flowers in water is one of my fav go-to ideas for centerpieces. With the warm glow of candlelights you have a dreamy setting for v-day dinner.

Sunday Suppers created this gorgeous dessert cheese table for martha stewart weddings blog. I love the palette {cream + white} and the rustic inspired table decor. I also really like how they have cute signs for the cheeses and individual plates on porcelain boards. And I really really want a farmhouse table like this one. I wonder if I can convince the huz to construct one by reclaiming wood planks in our yard.

We loved the idea of taking a huge artistic display, and breaking it down into little tastings for each guest. – sunday suppers

Not only am I drooling as I write this, but am totally inspired to host a wine and cheese party. I might even try one of the cheese recipes from Thomas Keller’s book The French Laundry.

I really enjoy creating and styling these table decor ideas for you. Getting the right shots of the table decor can be a bit challenging at times. This tablescape took me two afternoons to shoot. Something or the other kept going wrong {battery, lighting, wrinkles, etc}. Though, I am still not very pleased with them, I’ll share them with you anyway.

I made the napkins and table runner. The placemats are from DwellStudio. The flower vase is my cake stand other way around. I just found out it can be multi-purposed as a punch bowl, cool right? The napkin rings are from Crate and Barrel.
