These pretty tabletops are really inspiring me to host a girlie afternoon party.
I just had to start with this one.. The styling of this lingerie shoot totally invites sexy to stay..lingerie tabletop. perhaps as a bridal shower. and lacy lingerie as sexy party favors. fun!
I’m eyeing all the treats in those glass domes. I’d love to bring out all my cake stands for a dessert table sometime soon.
and these treats..
..adorable place settings by Gumps in San Francisco.
In case you missed it, the remarkable anne sage of city sage styled this pride and prejudice themed wedding editorial shoot for nonpariel magazine. The location, villa montalvo in saratoga, is absolutely gorgeous and anne’s styling beautiful. Pride and prejudice happens to be one of my fav books of all time, so I am a bit biased. And I love mismatched placesettings..would love to have the girls over for an afternoon champagne party. you in?

im off to spray paint a thrifted wooden tray, and then to {school} night out with my girls.

Happy Father’s Day. To all fathers, and especially to my loving dad. It is hard being far away from you and mom and i miss you very much. if you lived closer, this is how i imagine we would celebrate the day.
How did you all celebrate? I am jealous of those who live close to their family, so I hope you make your fathers feel special today.
For those who are separated, do you find it hard to be away from loved ones and family? How do you celebrate holidays like this?

Last, and in no way least, this tabletop was my favorite from the washpo Express shoot. A practical, nature-inspired tabletop for dining al fresco.
Trays in place of placemats make it easy to carry plates, silver and glasses and will stay put when its windy outside. Since we switched to a smaller table for the shoot, I had to do away with the trays as well as a small stree stump that would serve as a stand for succulents.
Silver bowls from india, cheese board and burlap runner from pottery barn, lion head soup bowls from william sonoma, steak knives from fishes eddy, napkins are from targetm the plates are vintage from a thrift store, and butterfly print tablecloth is hand made by me.

Dont ever throw away old brushes, they are so useful to clean all sorts of things, especially block printing stamps and silk screens, says julia – owner of handcrafted green designs jewelweeds.
I love julia’s soft and organic designs, inspired by natural beauty.
Even though she has been featured everywhere, I JUST found her and her beautiful designs today via Sweetpaulmagazine, my latest addiction!!

Hellos. Here is table setting number three from the washington post express article. This one was inspired by mojitos, a perfectly refreshing summer drink. I had plans to freeze large square ice cubes (4″x4″) with mint leaves in them and pace them on the dessert plate. Due to a change in table size at the request of the art director at express, I had to scratch that idea.
You see, initially I had planned table settings for four to six for the shoot. Which would have been on my regular sized (accommodating 4-6 people) dining table and had more surface space. We had to switch to a small card table on a last minute and I had to improvise and use only what could fit without making the table look cluttered.
So, keep in mind that all these tabletop designs could easily work for more than just two place settings.
green bowls from buenos aires
the napkins, placemats and placecard from crate and barrel
plates bed bath and beyond, silverware and beer glasses from target.
tablecloth is made by me using fabric from my local hancock store
You know i love bird salt and pepper shakers.. these are from anthropologie.

Thank you so much for your sweet comments about my injury. You are all truly awesome!! I feel a little better in that there is pain only when I move my arm. My appointment with the specialist is on thursday and I hope to get some good news, like Im magically healed.
As promised, here are more pics from my washpo express shoot. My inspiration for this summer tabletop, lovely pinks and lilacs fresh from the farmers market.
me in action…
Starting the meal off right with fresh raspberries paired with a crisp glass of champagne.
i love details and personal touches. I also love to find unexpected uses for things. here, i am using ceramic measuring spoons from anthropologie to hold various types of salt.
The table cloth is actually a scarf from h&m. plates and pink glasses from anthropologie, napkins are vintage from a thrift store, palceholder napkin rings from pottery barn, goblets from target, silerware from william sonoma, ceramic sugar pot from anthropologie and chinese soup spoons and pillar candles from pier1.
would love to read your thoughts on this tabletop…

hello dears.
I’m back from our week-long trip to Maui. A bit jetlagged, a bit sunburnt and very tan. It was a fab vacation and felt great to be by the ocean; lounging by the beach + pools.
We did plenty of fun activities including sailing on a sunset cocktail cruise, boat rides to Lana’i and Molokini islands, snorkeling, and surfing.
AND had a super nice time meeting up with blogging buddy, rachel of lovely clusters. She is even more lovely in person. We were sad when the week came to an end, but glad to be back to home sweet casa hidalgo. I’ll be doing a more detailed post of my trip soon.
Now for some exciting news….
I mentioned prepping for a shoot a couple of weeks ago. It was for the Washington Post‘s Express paper. The editors interviewed me and asked me to create a few spring-summer inspired tabletops for the article. They came over for the shoot a few days before I left for Maui. The article was featured in the May 7 issue of Express, and included a pic of yours truly. Here is the spread….
The article references me in a few places and I am honored to be mentioned alongside Joe Nye (author – Flair), Kim Myles of HGTV’s “Myles of Style” and Tai Tsang (owner – tabletop dc).
You can view the print version online here – http://www.expressnightout.com/printedition/
click on May 7 and go to page(s) 27, 30 & 31. I will try to get more pics from the shoot to share with you.
Have a great week ahead!!
xoxo

Happy cinco de mayo dears.
Hope you are doing well my friends. I’m having a fantastic time in Hawaii. Maui is gorgeous! I could really get used to lounging by the beach spotting whales, snorkeling, and sundowners. We went to an amazing sunset sailing cruise yesterday which I totally recommend when you visit.
In addition to more beach action, surfing, a spa treatment and hawaiian-style cinco de mayo celebrations are on the agenda for today. While I soak in more sunshine and avoid more sunburns, I leave you with some cinco de mayo party and tabletop inspirations for you.
margarita cupcakes also a lovely sangria recipe
